Raspberry Seed Oil (cold-pressed and unrefined)
What is Raspberry Seed Oil?
Raspberry seed oil is extracted from the tiny seeds of the raspberry (Rubus idaeus). Our raspberry kernel oil is cold-pressed and unrefined, with a slightly cloudy, yellowish to orange-yellow color and a mildly fruity, nutty scent. The oil is known for its exceptionally high content of unsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants, making it one of the most active vegetable oils for skin care.
How is Raspberry Seed Oil made?
With cold-pressed, unrefined oil, no heat above 30 degrees is used during pressing, and no solvents are used. Then the oil is filtered and ready for use. The yield is low: from 100 kilos of seeds only 10 to 23 kilos of oil comes, which makes raspberry seed oil a valuable product.
Why is Raspberry Seed Oil so special?
Raspberry seed oil has an exceptionally high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The oil consists of about 50 to 60% linoleic acid (omega 6) and 25 to 35% alpha-linolenic acid (omega 3). That high proportion of omega-3 is exceptional for a vegetable oil and is what makes the oil so well-known for barrier repair and skin care.
In addition, raspberry seed oil naturally contains carotenoids (including beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A), polyphenols and alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E). This combination makes raspberry seed oil one of the most antioxidant-rich vegetable oils in existence.
Benefits of Raspberry Seed Oil for Your Skin
Supports the skin barrier
The high content of linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid supports the natural skin barrier and helps with dry, thirsty or irritated skin.
Powerful antioxidant effect
Raspberry seed oil is rich in polyphenols, vitamin E and carotenoids. These antioxidants help protect the skin from free radicals and contribute to a smooth, healthy appearance.
Soothes irritated skin
The high content of unsaturated fatty acids and polyphenols helps to calm red or irritated skin.
Benefits of Raspberry Seed Oil for Your Hair
Nourishes dry and damaged hair
The rich composition of unsaturated fatty acids softens dry and damaged hair and gives it shine.
How to use Raspberry Seed Oil?
For your skin, apply a few drops of raspberry seed oil to cleansed skin and massage gently. Because the oil works fairly quickly, it is suitable for both morning and evening use. Due to the orange-yellow color, the oil can slightly transfer it on light skin, so for the day it is sometimes nice to mix with a lighter base oil such as jojoba oil or squalane. For your hair, massage a few drops into the lengths and ends of damp hair.
Raspberry seed oil is also a wonderful ingredient in DIY facial serums and oils, especially when combined with other active oils such as rosehip oil or prickly pear oil.
Tips for using Raspberry Seed Oil
- Raspberry seed oil has a light orange-yellow color that comes from the carotenoids in the seeds. On light skin, this can temporarily give a slight yellow tint.
- The oil oxidizes relatively quickly due to the high content of unsaturated fatty acids. Store the bottle in a cool and dark place, and preferably use it within 6 months of opening.
- Never heat raspberry seed oil above 40 degrees. Always add the oil to DIY recipes in the cold phase.
- On various websites it is claimed that raspberry seed oil naturally has a high SPF. This is based on one in-vitro study from 2000 that has never been properly replicated. We therefore do not recommend raspberry seed oil as a substitute for a real sunscreen.
