Discover the beauty secret of Moroccan women

Ghassoul (or rhassoul) is a volcanic, pinkish to beige-colored clay that is used exclusively in the Ghassoul klei poederAtlas Mountains in Morocco. The word Ghassoul comes from the Arabic word ‘ghassala’ which means 'to wash' or 'to wash away'. The clay has been used in Morocco for generations since the 12th century as a natural hair and skin cleanser. It is used as a face mask, but also as a mask for the body and even as a hair mask. Rubbing your body with ghassoul clay is part of the Hammam ritual, a traditional Arabic bath & body treatment.

Ghassoul clay is rich in the minerals silica, magnesium, potassium and iron that absorb waste products from the skin. The clay gently cleanses your skin, refines your pores and in the long run you will see improvement in skin structure and have clear, radiant skin with less dryness.

Ghassoul clay also cleans your hair and scalp and removes residues from styling products. Great also if you suffer from oilier hair. For thin and lifeless hair, a hair mask with ghassoul is also great for creating more volume!

How to use ghassoul clay

Ghassoul klei maskerPut 1 tablespoon of clay in a glass or stone bowl, slowly add 3 tablespoons of water and stir (with a wooden or plastic spoon, not metal!) until a firm but spreadable mixture forms. If it is too thick, add more water, if it is too thin, more clay.

Apply the mask to your face, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with water. Never let the clay dry completely, it will dry out your skin too much! Of course, you can also apply the mask to the rest of your body. Simply use more clay and follow the same instructions. Enjoy wonderfully soft skin afterwards! You can use this mild clay daily.

For use in your hair, mix the clay in the same way until you have enough to massage your hair and scalp with it. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse your hair in the shower. The clay can dry out your hair a bit; If you suffer from this, you can also mix a little bit of the clay into your regular shampoo and wash your hair as usual.

Please note: Ghassoul clay can affect dyed hair because the hair dye can react to the minerals in Ghassoul clay.
