What is SLSA?

SLSA, or Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, is an ingredient that you definitely need if you are going to make foaming bath and shower products. This ingredient is naturally found in coconut and palm oil and is known for its mild but effective cleansing properties.

SLSA is used in solid and liquid cleaning products such as bath bombs, shampoo bars, shower products. Basically anything that foams!

What are the benefits of SLSA?

Good replacement for SLS
SLSA is a safe alternative to harsh surfactants such as SLS, which is known for its irritating properties.

Gentle on the skin

SLSA provides gentle cleansing of the skin, without drying out or irritating the skin. It is therefore very suitable in cleaning products.

Rich foam

Do you like a nice foamy bath or a shower full of bubbles? SLSA provides a rich and luxurious foam.

Natural and sustainable

SLSA is made from coconut and palm oil. This makes it a more environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic cleaning products.

Suitable for sensitive skin

SLSA is a mild cleanser that is suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

Perfect for your DIY bath bombs

SLSA helps hold the other ingredients in the bath bomb together and bind them, helping them hold their shape until they are used in the water.

How do you use SLSA?

SLSA is a very versatile ingredient and can be used in all kinds of ways in your DIY products. SLSA can be used for:

  • Bath bombs: for a wonderfully foaming bath. Add SLSA to the dry ingredients of your effervescent balecept.

  • Shower gels, shampoos, scrubs and cleansers: as foaming agents for a gentle, thorough cleansing. Add to the water phase of your product.

  • Solid soap: add to your favorite soap recipe for a rich lather experience that won't dry out your skin.

 Algemene tips:

  • SLSA operates in a pH range of 5-9.

  • SLSA is a skin-friendly substance, but in concentrated powder form it dusts easily and irritates the eyes and respiratory tract. Protective measures are therefore recommended for the processing of this product, namely gloves, mouth mask, safety glasses.

What is the difference between SLS and SLSA?

SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and SLSA are similar in name, but are very different:

  1. Source: SLS is synthetic, while SLSA comes from natural sources such as coconut and palm oil.

  2. Mildness: SLS is an aggressive foaming agent which can dry out and irritate your skin. It can strip the skin's natural oils, causing dryness and irritation. SLSA is much milder and does not cause irritation.

  3. Applications: SLS is often used in industrial cleaners, as well as in many personal care products, such as shampoo, laundry detergent, or even toothpaste. SLSA is specially made for skin products.

Apart from the name, both ingredients have nothing in common!
