What is Argan Oil?

Argan oil is extracted from the nuts of the argan tree (Argania spinosa), a tree that is only found in a small area in southwestern Morocco. The tree is of great economic and cultural importance there and is even on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Our argan oil is organic, cold-pressed and unrefined, with a golden yellow color and a typical, light nutty scent.

How is Argan oil made?

The fruits of the argan tree are collected as soon as they fall from the tree. The soft skin is removed and each fruit contains three seeds full of oil. These kernels are cracked and cold-pressed. With cold-pressed oil, no heat above 30 degrees is used during pressing, so that all natural vitamins, fatty acids and antioxidants are preserved.

Women's cooperatives have been set up in various places in Morocco to produce argan oil. These cooperatives give women a fair wage and self-determination: they decide for themselves when they collect the nuts, how hard they work and when they offer the nuts. Our organic argan oil comes from this type of cooperative.

Why is Argan oil so special?

Argan oil has a rich and balanced fatty acid composition. The oil consists of about 43 to 49% oleic acid (omega 9) and 29 to 36% linoleic acid (omega 6). In addition, argan oil is one of the richest plant sources of vitamin E (tocopherols) and naturally contains phytosterols such as schoteline, a unique substance found in virtually no other vegetable oil and known for its soothing, anti-inflammatory effect.

Because of this combination, argan oil has been appreciated in Morocco for centuries as a true multitasker for skin, hair and nails.

Benefits of Argan Oil for Your Skin

Nourishes and moisturizes intensely
The high content of oleic and linoleic acid makes argan oil a rich, nourishing oil. Especially nice for dry or thirsty skin.

Pro-age action thanks to vitamin E
Argan oil is one of the richest plant sources of vitamin E. This antioxidant helps protect the skin from free radicals and contributes to supple, elastic skin.

Absorbs smoothly and feels light
Although argan oil is rich, it does not feel greasy. The skin absorbs the oil quite quickly, making it pleasant in daily use, also for the face.

Benefits of Argan Oil for Your Hair

Gives shine and softness
Argan oil is known for its effect on dry, dull and frizzy hair. The oil softens the hair and gives a natural shine without feeling heavy.

Great as a leave-in or hair mask
A few drops in the lengths and ends works as a slight leave-in. For more intensive care, massage a larger amount into dry hair as a hair mask.

Also cares for the scalp
The nourishing effect is nice for a dry or itchy scalp.

How do you use Argan oil?

For your skin, massage a few drops into cleansed, slightly damp skin. Daily use is fine. For your hair, use argan oil as a leave-in on the lengths and ends, or as a hair mask that you leave on for 15 to 20 minutes before washing it out. For feet and nails, massage in a few drops, paying extra attention to dry spots and cuticles. Finally, a dash of argan oil in your bath water gives a wonderfully nourishing bath.

Tips for using Argan oil

  • Our unrefined argan oil naturally has a light, nutty scent that can sometimes resemble goat. That may sound crazy, but it is actually a sign of pure, authentic argan oil. The scent is created by the traditional production process and disappears after a few minutes on the skin.
  • Due to the high content of vitamin E, argan oil has a fairly long shelf life for an unsaturated vegetable oil. Keep the bottle cool and dark.
  • Argan oil mixes perfectly with other oils, and is a great ingredient in DIY facial serums, hair masks and body oils.
