Salie Etheric Olie (Scarlet)
What is Sage Essential Oil?
Salvia Sclarea, or Sage, is a small shrub plant with green stems and purple flowers. This multifunctional herb originates from the Balkans and may be known mainly for its role as a seasoning in the kitchen. People also clean their house with white Sage by burning it and think that this is how they drive away the negative energy.
'Salvia' comes from the Latin word 'save' which is a clear hint to the powers of Sage... You can read more about this later!
Both the Greeks and Romans believed that Sage encouraged longevity and the Egyptians used it to promote fertility.
Later it was processed as oil by means of steam distillation. Both the stems and the beautiful purple flowers are used for this. The result is a colorless to yellow oil. By evaporating this oil with, for example, a diffuser or a warm bath, Sage does its job as a 'savior'. It is a boost for the immune system, relieves shortness of breath in the respiratory system, but also calms down at the same time. It is packed with antioxidants, making it act as a natural anti-aging agent and promoting metabolism.
