What is Coconut Oil?

Coconut oil is extracted from the white flesh of the coconut. Our coconut oil is organic, cold-pressed and unrefined. As a result, it retains its full, subtle coconut scent and its natural composition. At room temperature, the oil is often solid and white, but in a warm environment it becomes clear and liquid.

How is Coconut Oil made?

Coconut oil is made from the ripe coconuts of the coconut palm, a tree that grows mainly in tropical regions such as the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. The coconuts are first cracked and the white flesh is removed. With cold-pressed, unrefined oil, this fresh pulp is pressed directly without high temperatures or chemical solvents. Then the oil is filtered and ready for use.

With refined coconut oil, the pulp is first dried into copra and then chemically refined, bleached and deodorized. That sounds harmless, but natural vitamins and the typical coconut smell are lost in the process. Our unrefined variant therefore stays closer to nature.

Why is Coconut oil so special?

Coconut oil has a unique fatty acid composition. It consists of about 80 to 90% saturated fatty acids, with lauric acid as the main component (around 45 to 50%). In addition, coconut oil contains a large proportion of medium-chain fatty acids such as capric acid and caprylic acid, which are quickly absorbed by skin and hair due to their short chain length. Because of that high content of saturated fatty acids, coconut oil is remarkably stable and has a long shelf life.

Benefits of Coconut Oil for your skin

Nourishes and protects the body
Coconut oil forms a rich, protective layer on the skin that prevents moisture loss. As a result, the skin feels soft, supple and hydrated after use.

Natural cleansing effect
The high content of lauric acid is known for its natural cleansing effect, which makes coconut oil a great ingredient for homemade soap and body wash.

Not recommended for the face
Coconut oil is delicious for the body, but on the face it is too heavy and clogging for many people. For your face, choose a lighter oil such as jojoba oil, argan oil or squalane.

Benefits of Coconut Oil for Your Hair

Really penetrates the hair shaft
Coconut oil is one of the few oils that can really penetrate the hair shaft due to its specific fatty acid structure, instead of just remaining on the outside.

Reduces protein loss during washing
As a result, coconut oil helps the hair to retain proteins during washing, which is especially nice for dry, damaged or porous hair.

Gives shine and softness
The hair feels softer after use and gets a natural shine.

How to use Coconut Oil?

For the body, let a little melt between your hands and spread over your skin, preferably still damp after showering. For your hair, apply a little melted coconut oil to dry hair as a hair mask, leave it on for at least 30 minutes or overnight, and wash it out with shampoo. Our organic coconut oil is also suitable for cooking and baking, and is very stable when heated due to its high proportion of saturated fatty acids.

Tips for using Coconut Oil

  • At room temperature, coconut oil is often solid and white, above 24 to 26 degrees liquid and clear. Both forms are normal.
  • Does the oil scoop out unevenly? Stir it well or let the jar stand briefly at room temperature.
  • Do not use coconut oil on the face. For facial care, lighter oils are more suitable.
  • From 1 liter, the coconut oil is delivered in a plastic jar.
